How we built this business with AI

Every business that sells AI consultancy should be able to point at itself as proof. Here's exactly what we did.

The starting point

When Barely Artificial launched, there was no marketing team, no design agency on retainer and no content department. There was one person, twenty-plus years of technical delivery experience, and a decision to build the business the same way clients would eventually be told to work: find where AI genuinely helps, use it there, and keep a human in charge of quality.

What got built

The brand identity, the colour system, the messaging and taglines. The service model, including the three-arm structure that splits consultancy, training and virtual IT management into distinct, understandable offers. The content plan. The documents clients receive. This website.

None of it was generated and published unchecked. Every piece went through the same loop: draft with AI, review against what actually needed to be said, cut what didn't earn its place, rewrite what sounded like it came from a machine.

What it proves

Speed isn't the interesting part. Plenty of things can be produced quickly and still be wrong for the business. The interesting part is that a single person, using AI as a working partner rather than a replacement for judgement, produced a coherent brand and working systems that would normally need a small team.

That's the pitch to clients too, just at a smaller scale. Most SMEs don't need a bigger team. They need the one or two places where AI removes the bottleneck, applied by someone who knows what good looks like on the other side.

The honest bit

This approach doesn't work unblended. Left alone, AI output drifts towards generic phrasing, overconfident claims and the kind of copy that reads like everyone else's. The value isn't the AI. It's the twenty-plus years of knowing what to keep, what to cut and what would embarrass the business if it shipped.
